SS Mundoo Cert.3 in Tourism, Hospitality and Care services is by onboard study. Students are enrolled as Crew members seeking a river work future.

Our alternate 3 year Cert.3 Tourism & Hospitality, is a Residential school schools ships program for boys and girls, aged 16+ at risk of school dropout.

They share an alternate, safe, full time residence on SS Mundoo doing Cert.3 tech study, building the required boat time experience for a riverboat work future that can carry them through the teen danger years.

As remote study students, they learn tourism, hospitality, adventure leadership and care services skills under a river school remote enrolled student supervision.

Private bunk accommodation for the Mundoo full time students is below deck.

• School Enrolment: Our VTiS Tech School age Students (16-18) remain enrolled in their high school or another of our partner high schools while taking Remote Study VET units through TAFE SA or an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO). See this formal advice.

• The school ship provides the safe student home environment and will negotiate remote student enrolment in one of the River Murray high schools.

• A Safe, Professional Environment: The ship is managed by a qualified Master and two registered teachers, alongside 16 full-time student crew volunteers gaining their required maritime "sea time." These older student mentors assist with our daily kayaking program while building their own experience for a VETiS Cert 3 in Outdoor Recreation Leadership Certificate.

• Disrupting Screen Time: To help students stay present and connect with the world around them, students are required to charge their mobile phones overnight and leave them in their swags during the day.

• The Routine: A typical voyage runs as a continuous remote river cruise offering comfortable, backpacker-style hosting for a close-knit group of 16 or more students. We depart from, and return to, your team’s home port, whether that’s Mildura, Wellington, or any beautiful river town in between. Because every group’s needs are a little different, we work closely with you to negotiate a custom program and quote.

The three-year Murray VETiS Cert 3 in Tourism, Hospitality and Care Services on the school ships bridges the teen adventure need gap by providing a full-time residential support on the school ship for senior school teens "Fledging" in the Natural world, under the watchful eyes and guidance of our skilled teachers.

We offer a unique, challenge-based learning adventure aboard our residential school ships, keeping older teens engaged in education during their compulsory schooling years. No matter their previous schooling experience, our practical approach helps students spread their wings in an environment tailored to their lifestyle, under the watchful guidance of our special skills teachers.

Teens bring with them only what they can wear and carry in their backpack. The student team works together to support each other in every way. We welcome and support teens with disabilities.

• The Program: This three-year VETiS tech program integrates essential subjects with Cert.3 in River Tourism Hospitality.

• A Rich Curriculum: Alongside core maths, English, boat operation, survival skills, cookery, hospitality, first aid, and care services, students dive into creative arts and develop their chosen passion subject.

• Every student must bring a musical instrument with them, a tradition on riverboats. Sea shanties help with the rhythm of boat work, and campfire or evening music and singing is good before quiet time.

• Learn at Your Own Pace: In the process, you help visiting school camp groups. We follow the standard 4-term school year, but there is no ticking clock. The school ship becomes their home with a team of brothers and sisters, to stay full-time if needed. Tech College students can take three years or longer to graduate from their supervising campus. The time it takes to qualify is entirely up to them.

• All full-time students will help the visiting school camp school camp teachers as assistants to build their professional logbooks.
